Theory of Automata (CS402)
Assignment No.2

Deadline
Your assignment must be uploaded before or on 27th April, 2011

Rules for Marking
It should be clear that your assignment will not get any credit if:
• The assignment is submitted after due date
• The assignment is copied

Objectives
Objective of this assignment is to make students able to understand the following concepts,
• Finite Automata
• Transition Graph
• Generalized Transition Graphs
• Kleene’s Theorem Part III

Question No.1
Finite Automata
Consider the Language L of Strings, defined over Σ = {a, b}, staring and ending with same letter. The RE of language is: (a+b) +a (a + b)*a + b (a + b)*b. Draw the FA of given Language.

Question No.2
Transition Graph
Draw the TG for the language L of strings, defined over Σ = {a, b} in which if a occur it is in the form of aaa and that ends in two or more b’s.

Some example strings are:
bb , bbb , bbbbb , … , aaabb , aaabaaabb , baaabaaabb , baaabaaabbbb ,
bbbaaabaaabbbb , …

Question No.3
Transition Graph
Draw the TG for the language L of strings, defined over Σ = {a, b}, beginning and ending in same letters. The language L may be expressed by RE a(a + b)*a + b(a + b)*b.

Question No.4
Generalized Transition Graphs
Consider the language L of strings, defined over Σ = {a,b}, accepting all strings without double “b”. Draw the GTG for the above stated language.
[Hint: First make RE of the language].

Question No.5
Kleene’s Theorem Part III
Let r1 = (a + b)*a and the corresponding FA1 be

Find out the FA corresponding to r1+ r2

How to Make FA using Word:

You can view the video file
http://vulms.vu.edu.pk/Courses/CS402/Downloads/Assignment1.00.zip
to see how to make FA in MS Word.

Important Note:
While attempting any question always remember the following points:
o Where OR is used in the description of a language it means that expressions on both sides of ‘OR’ are parts of the language.
o Where NOT is used in the description of the language it means that language includes all strings except described in the ‘NOT’ condition, for example language NOT starting with a, means all strings not having a in the start (you have to evaluate yourself what kinds of strings are these).

Assignment Uploading Instructions:
o Upload single word file having solutions for all questions.

Question/Description

Question: Given the weekly demand data, what are the exponential smoothing forecasts for periods 2-05 using a=0.10?
Week
Demand
0.1
1
860
2
730
3
690
4
610

Note: Calculation along with the formula is required for each period's forecast. Students who give answers without calculation will be given low marks/no marks.
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Solution:

Exponential Smoothing Model
Ft = Ft-1 + a (At-1 - Ft-1)
Where
Ft = Forecast value for the coming time period
Ft-1 = Forecast value in 1 past time period
At-1 = Actual occurrence in the 1 past time period
a = Alpha smoothing constant
:::::::::::::::::::::::::
Formula Fn= fn-1+a(At-1-Ft-1)
Fn= Forecast value for coming period
Ft-1= Forecast value in 1 past time period
a= Alpha smoothing constant
At-1= Actual occurance in the 1 Past time period
week Demand 0.1 Calculations Equals
1 860 860 860=0.10(0) 860
2 730 860 860+0.10(860-860) 860

it ll be according to question #2. pool resources etc
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Pc 1. What will be your objective to start a business? (5)

If I start this business my vital objective would be “customer’s satisfaction” because that’s the way through my business will grow up. But it is not possible by only planning minor or sit back and hoping to see money. But I need to couple of crucial things in my mind and act upon them. Setting objectives engage a continuous process of research and decision-making. 1st of all Knowledge of yourself and your entity is a vital preliminary point in setting objectives. 2ndly Goal setting should be the vital part of your business and is one of the major part of a good business strategy. Lots of people when they establish a business ignore to do this and in the end continuous circles achieving very little. So I must say that one should really focus on goal setting if he wants the ultimate customer’s satisfaction.

2. Which business structure is most suitable for this business; give the logical reasons for adopting this business structure? (10)

Before starting any business 1st of all we should be aware and to know various types of legal business structures that exists along with there benefits and drawbacks. If I start this business then I will choose sole proprietorship coz it is type of business that don’t need such legal entity like registering your business in local municipality. The other big advantage of this structure is to give me full control on financial place it mean I can enjoy full share of profit. And one more logic is that it is easy to form not much money or investment or equipment required for it. Usually it remain away from taxes. In this type of structure of business the sole proprietor alone is responsible for all decisions. He is free to take any decision on his own. Since no one else is involved in decision making it becomes quick and prompt action can be taken on the basis of the decision. In sole proprietorship structure the owner has full control over each and every activity of the business. As we know owner has all power with him it is possible to exercise better control over business. Business secrecy is an important aspect for all businesses. It refers to keeping the future plans, business strategies, etc. secret from outsiders or competitors. In the case of sole proprietorship business, one is in a very good position to keep his plans to himself since organization and control are in his hands.

3. What sorts of promotional activities will you perform before opening this business? (5)

Advertisement has become an important part to promote any sort of business so I will also not stay behind from it. But one thing also need to keep in mind that I am also going to form a business establishment that require some investment so I must keep on eye on low cost advertisement activities. Such as

Brushers : I will spend some of the my budget on Brushers to tell people that I am going to start this business so more and more parents adopt my pick and drop service for their children.

Local Cabal Network : when I wish to promote this business at local area especially at cheap basis then there is nothing better use local cabal network as a key for advertise my business.

Internet : If my budget supports me to do advertise more than I should not hesitate to open a website of my business.

Hiring Qualified Service : Most important thing is that no one should deny my business and should not give wrong feedback to do this I should hire such drivers who know enough about road sense and rules.

Consider the markets of motor vehicles and fuel oil. If price of motor vehicles rises, what will happen to the demand of fuel oil? In which direction the demand curve for fuel oil will shift with a rise in price of motor vehicles?

Note: Your solution must be within 50-75 words.
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Solution:

Well the curve for fuel oil is leftward... $ If price of motor vehicles rises , It will bring fall in demand of fuel oil.
......................................
because all the three items cannot be identify in single unit. and according to the definition of indirect material if a material cannot be identify its individual value/cost in single unit it should be indirect materialbecause all the three items cannot be identify in single unit. and according to the definition of indirect material if a material cannot be identify its individual value/cost in single unit it should be indirect material
::::::::::::::::::
Demand for fuel oil will fall and the demand curve will shift LEFTWARDS, showing that decrease.

If price of motor vehicle rises, Fuel oil demand decrease will fall and it curve will shift to left direction reflecting decrease
:::::::::::::
Demand for fuel oil will fall and the demand curve will shift LEFTWARDS, showing that decrease.

If price of motor vehicle rises demand of fuel oil will fall and the demand curve will shift leftwards, it show that will decrease.
:::::::::::::::::::::::::
If price of motor vehicle rises demand of fuel oil will fall and the demand curve will shift leftwards, it show that will decrease.
::::::::::::::::::::::::::
With the increase in the price of the motor vehicles the demand for the vehicle will decrease and the demand of fuel oil will decrease and the demand curve of the fuel oil will shift leftward.
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

In my point of view the demand of motor vehicle fuel fall due to rise in motor vehicles price.
